Alex Mackin

Alex Mackin received a Master’s degree in Engineering Mathematics from the University of Bristol in 2013. He is currently a PhD student within the Visual Information Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Dave R. Bull, investigating the role that frame rates play within an extended video parameter space, which includes higher dynamic range, increased spatial resolution and a wider colour gamut.

His interests include:

  • Human visual system modelling
  • Compression
  • Quality metrics
  • High frame rates

Publications

The Bristol Vision Institute High Frame Rate (BVI-HFR) database is available at the following link: http://data.bris.ac.uk/data/dataset/k8bfn0qsj9fs1rwnc2x75z6t7

The dataset has 22 unique sequences over a range of frame rates from 15 to 120 Hz.

Funding

Alex is funded through an EPSRC iCase award in conjunction with BBC Research & Development.
